Final Instructions!

Rules and Event Flow

Each team will run a cumulative 211 laps between relay members. The 211 laps must be divided into 26 relay legs.

The first 25 legs will be exactly 8 laps (approximately 1 mile) each.

The final 26th relay leg will run 11 laps (roughly 2200 meters/1.4 miles) to complete the race.

Please run your leg in lanes 1-3 for the first 7 ½ laps.

As you complete your 8th lap, be prepared to merge into lane 4 to approach the "Exchange Zone."

The Exchange Zone will be clearly marked on the homestretch in lanes 4-6. The baton exchange must take place in the Exchange Zone.

Once the baton is handed-off, the next runner should safely merge into lanes 1-3 to begin their relay leg. The runner who has just completed their leg should exit the track.

Lap Counting

Every runner is responsible for counting their own laps! Every runner (with the exception of the runner completing leg 26) will be running 8 laps.

The runner who is next on the track and waiting for the handoff in the Exchange Zone can and should help the runner on the track with lap counting.

You will also be able to see the remaining laps for your specific leg on the scoreboard. The number of laps remaining on your leg will be listed next to your team name.

Checking-In for Your Race

It is very important that you are keeping tabs on what number leg(s) you are running and what number leg is currently running on the track.

You should plan to enter the Athlete Check-In area when you are three legs away from racing (i.e. the 7th Leg is currently on the track and you are racing the 10th Leg).

Please make sure you enter the Athlete Check-In area race ready with your singlet, bib, and hip number on. Hip numbers go on left hip.

Do not bring bags or electronics into the check-in area.

The athlete check-in area is located in the corner of the track closest to the main entrance to the facility.

How it Works

Build Your Team

Each marathon relay team will consist of 10-26 members. Visit the registration page (linked above) to see how to signup.

Divide and Conquer

One race day, each team can have only one runner on the track at a time. Each leg will consist of 8 laps (roughly 1 mile), except for the leg. Every runner on your team is required to run at least once and no runner can run more than three legs total.

Run the Marathon (Together!)

Your team will take on running 211 laps total on a 200m indoor track. Each runner will start and end their run around the track with a high five with their teammate in the exchange zone by the starting line. The exchange zone will be clearly marked so you know exactly where to step on and off the track for your turn.

Celebrate at the TRACK

After the race is over, enjoy some food and drinks in the infield. This event isn’t just a race it’s also a kickoff celebration for an entire weekend of marathon festivities!

FAQs

I know a marathon is 26.2 miles long, how does that translate to an indoor track?

The TRACK at New Balance features a state of the art, speedy 200m indoor track which means to complete a marathon, you and your team will have to complete a cumulative 211 laps.

How many people can I have on my team?

Each team must have at least 10 runners and can max out at 26 runners. Individual runners are not allowed to compete.

How do I start and end my turn?

There will be a clearly marked exchange zone by the start/finish line on the track. Starting and completing your turn in this zone will help keep runners on the track safe and help make sure you get an accurate official split for your run. Teammates will hand off a baton between each leg.

How do I register for this race?

All teams interested in competing must fill out the form on the registration page. If your team is selected you will be required to have all members of your team signup on runsignup.com. All team members need to complete registration to sign the event waiver. You’ll have the option to create a group/team or join an existing group/team using the team name at registration.

What does race day look like?

You and your team should arrive at the track at least an hour ahead of the race start time. This will give you time to settle in, complete packet pickup for your team, distribute runner bibs and hip numbers, and complete your pre-race routine. All runners should have their racing bibs and hip numbers on and visible for the entirety of the race. You and your team should be present by the track 15 minutes before the start for racing instructions.

I want to register a co-ed team, is this allowed?

Yes! If you have a mix of male or female team members in mind, you’re more than welcome to register. If you want a shot at a prize, then each gender has to run a cumulative 100 laps of the 211 lap race.

Are there any minimum or maximum distances for each team member? Is there a minimum or maximum number of times a team member can run?

Each “leg” or every time a runner steps on the track they will be required to run 8 laps (roughly 1 mile). Every runner on the team is required to run at least one leg and no runner may complete more than three legs.

Is there a time cutoff?

Yes. The event will end at 8:00pm. Teams are required to complete the marathon in under 4 hours. Any team that has not completed 211 laps in 4 hours will not receive an official finish time.
